The one that's already halfway out when the headlights hit it

A skeleton from the ribs up, both arms clawing at the air, coming out of its own mound of cast dirt. At 34 inches tall and 30 wide it does the reaching for the whole graveyard from one spot. Front lawn, near the walk, where the porch light or a single spot can catch the skull. It is also one of the pieces in the Graveyard Starter bundle.

The dirt comes with it

The base is a cast mound with stones and clods worked into the surface, so the skeleton reads as coming out of the ground even on a lawn you have not touched. No digging, no bag of mulch to hide a plate. Stakes are in the box and pin it to the sod, and that is the whole install.

Wind-tested to 25 mph, low and wide

Wind-tested to 25 mph. At 6.1 pounds it carries out of the garage in one hand, and it sits low and wide, 30 inches across and 18 deep, so there is not much for a gust to grab. It is the piece you do not walk out to check on at 2 a.m.

Slightly scary, on purpose

Open jaw, hooked fingers, bare ribs. It is a skeleton doing a skeleton thing, nothing worse. The younger trick-or-treaters get a proper look and keep walking; the teenagers get the photo. Rated slightly scary, and that is exactly where it sits.

Halloween night, and the morning after

Around dusk, one spot on the skull and the arms throw shadow onto the grass behind it. Cars slow. Somebody's kid stops at the edge of the lawn to decide. On the first, pull the stakes, brush the leaves off the mound, and it goes back flat the way it came. Weather-cast resin does not mind a wet October, so it comes out of the tote next year the same shape it went in.

Cars actually slow down

Set it at an angle toward the road like the card says. It reads as climbing out even at 20 mph. Neighbor asked where I rented it.

The shroud looks cheap in no photo I took, and expensive in person. Weird but true. Five minutes to set.

Wants soft ground

Spikes need sod. On my gravel side yard I had to cross-tie it. In the lawn it planted solid.
