A 6.9-foot clown with a cone melting down his head, one eye lit, and a dripping three-scoop cone in his glove with an eyeball where the cherry should be. Motorized, with motion-activated lights and sound, so he stays dark and quiet until somebody gets close. He belongs on the front lawn, on the stretch of path they have to walk to reach the door.
The cone is the whole bit
Somebody planted an ice cream cone on his head and it has been melting down his face ever since, one eye glowing under the drip. The red bow tie and suspenders survived. The lavender shirt did not survive clean. From the sidewalk he reads as a clown; from the porch he reads as a problem.
Keep the toddler lane clear
Not for little kids, and the teeth back that up. Put him on the route the older crowd takes to the door and leave a straight, well-lit path for the small ones and the strollers. You want screams, not a parent carrying a kid back to the car.
Plugs into the wall, stands on his own
Runs on 120V from a plug, so there is no battery pack to quit mid-evening; run an outdoor extension cord to the nearest outlet. The feet sit on a black metal base frame, so he stands upright on a flat stretch of lawn or porch. Delivery runs 5 to 7 days, or 3 to 4 if you pay for express.
Halloween night, and the morning after
Around dusk the first group walks up, the sensor catches them, the eye lights and the noise starts, and the motor keeps him going. Then it is the same moment over and over until the porch light goes off. On November first he unplugs, packs flat back into the tote, and the same clown is waiting for next year's crowd.
