Seven feet of clown, standing on his hands

A 7.2-foot animatronic clown doing a handstand on a black base, head down by the grass, shoes pointed at the sky. Plug it into a 120V outlet and the motor takes over; the striped suit and the red hair do the rest at the edge of the porch light. Built for the front lawn, and meant for kids old enough to walk past it on purpose.

Head at the bottom, on purpose

Most lawn figures loom over a kid. This one puts the white face and the red hair down near the ground, with the black shoes seven feet up where the adults are looking. The grown-ups notice it second. The kids notice it first.

Mismatched suit that reads from the street

One leg and the opposite arm in gray marbled cloth, the rest in orange-and-yellow stripes, white ruffles at the neck, wrists and ankles, two white pom-poms down the chest. White gloves, black shoes. Nothing subtle about it, which is the point from the sidewalk.

Not for the toddler side of the yard

The spec sheet says not for little kids, and an inverted clown grinning at knee height earns that. Put him a few steps off the main path so the older ones can go looking for him and the strollers can keep moving toward the candy.

The 31st, and the morning after

Halloween night he holds the handstand by the walk, the porch light picks up the stripes and the motor keeps him moving; the kids who saw him last weekend still cut wide on the way to the door. Standard shipping puts him on your porch in 5 to 7 days, 3 to 4 on express. On November 1 he unplugs, folds down and goes back in the tote with the rest of the crew until next October.

Centerpiece energy

This is the piece the whole yard gets built around now. The finish reads expensive at night under color.

Big box, plan the storage

Displays beautifully. November me needs to figure out where he sleeps — keep the carton.
