Galvanized metal, orange heads, 12 count

Twelve galvanized stakes for the night the wind shows up

Twelve 7.1-inch galvanized metal stakes with an orange head and a side hook that catches the tie-down line. Drive them at the base of an inflatable, a lit archway, or anything that came with wire pins, and the line stays where you put it. Front lawn, side yard, the strip by the driveway that takes the wind off the street.

Orange heads you can find at teardown

Bare metal pins vanish into a lawn by November 1. These have a bright orange head on top, so when you are pulling the yard at midnight with a flashlight in your teeth, you count to twelve and you are done.

A flat metal cap for the mallet

Each head has a round metal cap on top, so you hit the cap, not the orange head, and the shaft goes in straight. The hook on the side of the head takes the line and holds it in the crook, so it does not ride up and slip off.

Ships in its own drawstring bag

A black pouch comes with the set. At teardown, twelve stakes go back in it, the pouch goes in the tote with the prop it held, and next September you are not digging through a coffee can of mismatched pins to find what fits.

Halloween night, and the morning after

On the night, the wind does what it does and the prop stays facing the sidewalk, because the line is hooked on an orange head on a galvanized stake, not looped over a bent wire. On November 1 you pull twelve, knock the dirt off the points, and they go in the bag until next year. No bending anything back into shape. No buying another set.
