Water-based, one gallon

The fog that stays on your side of the fence

A gallon of water-based fog fluid for the machine you already own. Chill the output on the way out and it settles low and pools around the tombstones instead of rolling off down the street. Made for the graveyard out front: along the walk, between the markers, under the porch light.

A plain white jug with a handle

White plastic, black screw cap, a molded handle up top. It looks like every other gallon jug on the garage shelf, and that is fine; the handle is the part that matters, because it lets you top off a machine one-handed in the dark, and the cap screws back on between fills.

Thick, and meant for outdoors

High-density formula, so what comes out reads as a bank instead of a haze. It is made for outdoor use, which is where this belongs: low along the walkway and between the markers, where a flashlight beam catches it and the kids slow down.

Here in 5 to 7 business days

Standard shipping runs 5 to 7 business days; express lands in 3 to 4. If the machine is already sitting in the garage waiting on you, the fluid was the part that was missing.

The thirty-first, and the morning after

Come Halloween night the fog sits low across the graveyard, the tombstones poke out of it, and the walk-up to the door gets a little longer than it needs to be. Slightly scary, which is exactly the amount. When the last porch light goes out, cap the jug and clean the pump before it goes on the shelf; that is the whole trick to having the machine run again next October.
