Static print, slightly scary

The mummy that stares back at the doorbell

A flat printed panel that turns the front door into a mummy: white wraps crossing it top to bottom, a black slit near the top with two big yellow eyes looking out, five bats and one spider hanging by a thread. Nothing moves and nothing plugs in; the eyes do the work. It goes on the door under a covered porch, behind the rest of the setup, where the kids stand still long enough to notice it.

Reads from the sidewalk

Black slit, yellow eyes, white wraps. That contrast is what carries across a dark yard. The bats and the spider are the reward for whoever actually walks up the steps.

Slightly scary, on purpose

It is a cartoon mummy, not a corpse. The four-year-olds who freeze at the animatronics still walk up to this door, which matters if you want them close enough to reach the bowl.

Nothing to plug in

Static print. No cord, no batteries, no timer to set at dusk. It is the backdrop everything else in the doorway stands in front of, and the last thing you will have to troubleshoot.

On the night, and the morning after

By seven the porch light is on, the door is a mummy, and every kid on the step looks up at the eyes before looking down at the bowl. November first it comes off and leaves the door as it was, then stores flat with the rest of the doorway scene. Sold alone at $7.99 or as part of The Porch Kit; standard shipping runs 5 to 7 days.
