Fabric flame, plug-in, outdoor

Five feet of fire and nothing to put out

A flat black metal box, two rows of LEDs, and a strip of red fabric that stands in for the flame. Set it low on the front lawn and it puts a fire glow at the base of the house without the neighbors reaching for a hose. Plugs into a standard outlet and is built for outdoor use.

Fabric, not plastic

The flame is a length of red fabric, not a molded plastic tongue painted orange. Lit from the two LED rows along the top of the box, it reads as fire from the curb instead of a lamp shade shaped like one.

Cord, not batteries

It ships with a standard three-prong cord. Run it to the porch outlet or an outdoor extension and it stays lit as long as it is plugged in, which is more than most battery props manage past nine.

The box disappears

The housing is flat black with a vented front and small feet, so it sits low and vanishes once the sun drops. What the street sees is the fire, not the fixture. After October it does campfire duty at a party or on a stage.

Halloween night, and the morning after

Plug it in at dusk, set it where the placement guide says, and let it burn until the last porch light on the block goes off. Next morning, unplug, fold the fabric flat, and the whole thing goes back in its box on a shelf until next year, or until the next party needs a campfire.
