This is the piece that makes people look twice, because it is the one they were not expecting. A skeleton standing in the grass reads as decoration. A skeleton dog beside it reads as a scene — somebody lived here, and so did something else. It sits on its own four legs, needs no stake and no power, and at 20.5 inches it is big enough to be seen from the sidewalk instead of discovered on the way to the door.

The better one is at the edge of the lawn with its back to the house, as if it just came around the corner — people register the direction before they register the dog. If you already have something big and central, put this one off to the side. The scene reads best when there is a main piece and a second thing that suggests the main piece is not alone.
